In 1994, the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) went into effect. This act forced manufacturers to design toilets to flush at a rate of 1.6gpf (gallons per flush) instead of 3.5gpf – 5gpf, which was what most toilets were doing before. That means if you have a toilet from 1994 or earlier, you are flushing your money down the toilet! These more efficient toilets will save the average American 14,000 gallons of water a year and about 25% off your water bill when compared to a 3.5gpf toilet. These new toilets use half the water and still maintain the same flush power! In some cases, the technology used on newer toilets causes the flush power to actually be stronger.
